October 18th, 2011 - Now You're Singin' With A Swing

I covered for DJ Nexus and ran for an extra hour until Logos was ready to take over, making it a four-hour show! I started off with my favourite tracks by Matthew Herbert, taken from across his entire discography. After that, I played my personal 'best-of' selections from the "Verve//Remixed" quartet of albums (where Verve Records opened up their vaults to world-class DJs, inviting them remix classic songs from jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, etc). I followed those up with the entirety of the debut album by Caravan Palace, plus the two new songs (12 Juin 3049 and Clash) from their latest EP. Then I finished it off with one last set of Verve//Remixed stuff.

October 24th, 2011 - Monster Hospital

I had a massive leave-you-crying-in-bed kind of migraine on Friday night and had to flake out on covering for DJ Cybrid. DJs Kai and Anarchy picked up the slack for me and rocked the house, but I still wanted to make up for missing a show! So tonight I stole a page out of Anarchy's playbook, snagged the midnight to 3am slot, and did a surprise ninja gig! I gutted the playlist I'd planned to do Friday and swapped out a bunch of stuff at the last minute, but I'm pretty happy with the result. October 25th, 2011 - Let The Good Times Roll

Tonight I had a four-hour show in order to cover for DJ Logos (and the last hour of DJ Nexus's slot before him) and I played.... Well. I started off with the entirety of "Ray Sings, Basie Swings", which was a posthumous collaboration between Ray Charles and Count Basie (and his orchestra, of course), followed by a few sets of cabaret/tango-styled stuff and some world music. Then I played all of "Upstairs At Larry's: Lawrence Welk Uncorked", which was an album featuring electro-jazz remixes or covers of songs performed on The Laurence Welk Show (a famous variety show that ran from 1951 to 1982).

Apparently I have completely forgotten to post the last few of these. Failpants for me! But anyway. For this one, I was covering DJ Sultry Siren, and I brought out some of today's awesome fun indie garage rock. Every decade has its own garage rock, which goes on to become the new mainstream rock sound of the following decade. December 17th, 2011 - Under the Radar

Posthaste is still being held captive by his evil hobby-hating workplace -- damn them for trying to pay his rent and living expenses! -- so I covered his show again this week. It was an emergency Evecast, so I threw together a bunch of electro-industrial an hour before the show and tried to inject a bit of pirate flavour into it. I sort of succeeded, at least at the beginning and the end. Everyone seemed to have a good time, though, and I did too!

December 23rd, 2011 - DJ Eve Calls The Light

To celebrate the Winter Solstice -- the longest night of the year -- I threw a rave party in a hidden cave buried beneath the jungle-covered ruins of Primeva Island in Nerva Archipelago. It was a night of dreamy dance-trance and pounding primal techno with world music influences, and attendees were encouraged to throw off powers and make their own light show to summon back the sun, as it were. This was my first event and I had a blast! Just doing it at all made me really happy. The turnout was also better than I expected, considering how last-minute the whole thing was, and those who came seemed really happy with the concept. (They were also very forgiving of the fact that I currently have a nasty case of bronchitis and therefore sounded like a dying frog on my talk breaks, which you'll hear if you download the podcast.)

I hope to do more of these in the future!
