Caught in the action of kill or be killed, greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his brother.

Said goodbye to his mamma
As he left South California
To fight for the Red, White, and Blue.
He was twenty-three and green with a new M240
Just doing what he had to do.

He was dropped in the desert
Where the choppers would rumble
With the smell of napalm in the air.
And the sergeant said, "Look up ahead"

Like a dark, evil cloud
200 came down
on him and 34 more.
They fought for their lives
And one of them died
In the 2nd Cavalry.

(Chorus)
On the 4th of October,
The angels were crying
As they carried my brother away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the Eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
2007, the 4th of October.

Now he's twenty-five
And his hair's going grey
But the battle still plays in his head.
He limps when he walks,
But he's strong when he talks
About the shrapnel they left in his leg.

He puts on a black suit
Over his Airborne tattoo
And He ties it on one time a year
And remembers the fallen,
As he orders a tall one
And swallows it down with his tears.

(Chorus)
On the 4th of October,
The angels were crying
As they carried my brother away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the Eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
2007, the 4th of October.

Saw the Eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
2007.

(Chorus)
On the 4th of October,
The angels were crying
As they carried my brother away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.

(Chorus)
On the 4th of October,
The angels were crying
As they carried my brother away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around,
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the Eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
2007, the 4th of October.

The 4th of October
The 4th of October

This is roughly the story of Specialist Avealalo Milo. On October 4th, elements of Eagle Company, 2nd Squadron (Cougars), 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, engaged legitimate, known Al Queda elements. As I edited, like a dark evil cloud, 200 moved on our position, and it was just our 35-man platoon standing in their way. We engaged the enemy and we held our ground. Many of our men, including myself, were medievaced from the firefight - after it was over. We refused to leave the fight - as our brother had been killed, we felt it was our duty to engage and destroy the enemy. I myself broke my M249 SAW as I returned fire, and ended up firing an M14 repeatedly during the remainder of the fight. Our air support elements, Big Guns, moved in for medievac, and we refused it. We used Big Guns as air support. As soon as we were able, we returned. The Islamic leader of the area christened us the "Lions of Baghdad" in light of our performance during the firefight on the 4th of October in Baghdad against the Al Queda elements.

By the time we left our sector in Baghdad, we had set up three separate schools, the market was actually working, and the sector had a legitimate economy going on. To this day, the elements of the Iraqi Police we stay in touch with have told us, Al Queda refuses to assault them - they're afraid of the 'Lions of Baghdad' coming back to fuck them up.

My brother, Avealalo Milo, fought long and hard for this goal. He did not die in vain. That sector in Baghdad remains free - the schools are open, still, and the market still operates.

We saw the Eagle fly - in the clear blue sky, and Eagle Company, 2nd Squadron (Cougars) 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment (Dragoons), won the day. While I admit it was nothing close to Operation Hump, I remember my brother's sacrifice, and I honor his memory.

I thank you for helping me to remember my brother.

Thank you for your service and the sacrifice so many of you willingly bear. I lost my friend Casey in April 2004 in Iraq and that was incredibly difficult (esp afterward with the disasterous spectacle his mother made of his legacy, imho)...I couldn't imagine being there myself. I salute you, sir.
