Bluegrass music legend Doc Watson at the age of 89.

When i was 12, I went to a summer camp in the mountains of North Carolina. One afternoon, we had a special guest, who came in and talked about music for an hour and played a 45-minute set. The guest's name was Doc Watson, and while I didn't know it at the time, I was in the front row of a very intimate, spur-of-the-moment concert conducted by a man who would go on to win seven Grammys and to receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

I will miss you, Doc, and thank you for your gentle but unique gift.

My cousin, Joey Ceckovich, lost the battle with his demons and passed this morning. I didn't know him well, but with the semi-connectedness of Facebook, I've grown closer to my other cousins (his siblings) who are all very distraught. He fought for a long time...and now he no longer has to...

Along with Theodore Sturgeon, Ray Bradbury was the imaginative heart of the science fiction of his era. He will be missed.
