It's been about a year since the last Poetry Slam, so we're way past due for another one!

Here's how it works:
Record yourself reading or reciting a poem. It can be one that you wrote or just one that you particularly like. I'll match it up with a song (or you can suggest a song and make my life easier!) and play them on the air during my show on Friday, April 29th, 5pm-9pm.

You don't need a backing track, though if you want to get fancy, go ahead!

Submissions can be in .mp3 or .wav format.

Please introduce yourself and your poem at the beginning. Include the name of the poem and the author. Also, please allow about 5 seconds of silence at the end of your track so SAM's auto crossfade doesn't cut off your last word or two. If your poems needs to be disclaimered, please add that at the beginning as well. :P

You may submit as many poems as you like, however I may not be able to play them all depending on the total number of submissions I get. Please rank them in order of preference so the one(s) you really want played most will be.

Submissions should be sent to djonehitwonder@gmail.com by April 15th so I'll have time to review them, match them with songs, and put the show together.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to hearing some awesome poetry!

I've received a few submissions but haven't had time to listen to them yet. If you haven't sent yours yet, please do so by Friday April 15th so I'll have a chance to listen to them and pick a song to go with them if you haven't chosen one yourself. If I have any issues with your recordings I'll let you know by the 20th so you have a chance to rerecord them if necessary (that hasn't been an issue yet though, I can usually make adjustments in Audacity if needed, which is another reason I ask for two weeks to go through things).

Thanks!

I've never made a recording before but would like to. What program should I use and what format should it be in?

I use Audacity (it's free) and prefer .mp3 format but I can probably convert just about anything. There is also a Sound Recorder in Windows (under Accessories >>> Entertainment).

Hmmm sound recorder records in wma. Should I try converting it?

Edited to add: NM! I sent you an email. For the record, the reading is "in character" as Derdriu. XD

I'm still looking for a few songs to go with a few poems, but I'm estimating I have about 1 hour and 15 minutes right now. Obviously this is not going to fill up the entire 4 hour show. Not sure if I should postpone it until I can get enough submissions, add in some of the old stuff, or just do it as a segment in the middle of a regular show. Thoughts?

I think with a couple more submissions and my talk breaks, I can make it two hours. Which means I'd be able to do it once from 5-7 and again from 7-9. I'd still be doing it live, so what I say during talk breaks would be different, just repeating the poems and songs a second time. Or I could just do it at the beginning or end of the show, or sandwich in between 1 hour pre- and post-show music. Maybe I should set up a poll...
