Haven't really seen a post here yet about alternative ingredients for cooking at home, so I figured I'd start one.

Ground Beef: I'm not sure how available this item is around the country, but locally there are several options for getting extremely lean ground beef. Good for those that just can't give up the red meat. It's even leaner than ground turkey, which is surprisingly fatty. It's 96/4 (96%lean 4%fat). I've used it in many recipes and it tastes great. Burgers, spaghetti sauce, and even meat loaf. If you use an electric grill; however, like a George Foreman you have to be a bit more careful due to the low fat content.

Cooking oil: Try replacing the oil with apple sauce. It only really works in baking.
