The "rivalry" between ‘80s pop stars Tiffany and Deborah “not Debbie” Gibson will finally come to a glorious, epic head in the just-announced Syfy movie “Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid."

While the musical superiority of “I Think We’re Alone Now” vs. “Shake Your Love” could be debated for the rest of eternity, the film will at least give fans a chance to argue about the acting abilities of the former teen-pop rivals. Gibson will play a snake-rights activist – the kind, it seems, that protects even the “Mega” variety -- and Tiffany will tackle the role of an alligator-defending park ranger. The two characters will reportedly “brawl at a party, then take matters outside into the swamp.” It's unclear whether they will duet as they did in this video, but for now, let's dare to dream.

In 2009, Gibson starred in SyFy’s “Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus” alongside “ Are You Hot” judge (and actor) Lorenzo Lamas. In a move, perhaps, to one-up her former rival, Tiffany starred in “Mega Piranha,” which, according to the Hollywood Reporter, drew 2.2 million viewers. One can only imagine how great the ratings for “Mega Python Vs. Gatorioid” given the magnetic force of the combined star power of the former teen magazine cover girls.

After we finish silently mouthing the words "thank" and "you" to whoever is responsible for this film, let's consider some other ‘80s music adversaries that could benefit from a good swamp brawl. Vote for the match-up most deserving of its own SyFy movie in the poll below.

In the choices above, LL Cool J would kick Cool Moe D's ass both physically (LL is bulked up compared to Moe) and acting wise (LL's NCIS: Los Angeles vs Moe's ???; LL WINNAH!!). Just have to throw that out there.

Ashes to ashes,

As someone who grew up in the "valley girl, neon pink, gotta wear Esprit and make my bangs taller than my whole face" generation and owned cassettes by each of these women...and as someone who matured into a Sci-Fi channel fan (corrected your spelling there), I just gotta say...

...gag me with a dirty ashtray.

I think this is going to just prove that "SyFy" (yes, around here we pronounce this "syphy" like the word 'syphillis' :P ) has not only jumped the shark, they've jumped clear out of the water and stranded themselves in a deserted wilderness.

Also, here's the original Washington Post article containing the video and the above article: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/celebr ... ibson.html

Have to agree with Siren; when shows jump the shark, it just means they have nowhere to go... when a network does it? It means it's time to dump it off to another owner and hope they can repair it.

Ashes to ashes,

I'm almost afraid to see what they're going to do to SG:U and Warehouse 13.

Simple: Mega-shark cameos for the lot of them!

I hate the fact that they already ended the season of SGI:U again yet shows like Merlin are still going on. I Hate this idea of lets show 8 episodes, end the season for several months, the show another 8. End the Season again and its still the FIRST season. All because SyFy want to cram all of its shows into 1 time slot. Stop making Crapping movies to show on Saturdays. As much as I enjoy wrestling Stop showing a horrible wrestling show on Tuesday. Stop showing Anime on Monday. This is Sci-fi fiction. Hell even in the 8-4 they rarely show a Sci-fi show. I think the best they do is when they do a mini Star Trek Next Generation Marathon. This is Sci-fiction. Where are the Star Wars Marathons they should be showing not Spike. Where are the replys of Firefly, B5, some of the other Trek Series and much more. You know the real Sci-fiction... oh wait I forgot the owner of SyFY hates... Sci-fi... Ok I'm done ranting.

Well, the Anime is part of geek and sci-fi culture depending on the anime.

Personally I think that they need to stop showing the Horror crap. The crappy wrestling gets replaced in a few months with Smackdown.

Part of the mini seasons that they show also has to do with the rpoduction itself. How much shooting are they doing, and what other commitments do the other actors have.

Merlin is a BBC show, so they don't have any control over it.
