The Map of Metal

A friend found this and passed it on. It's a pretty nifty rendering, and a good crash course in the many many subgenres of metal. There are a few missing, but it's a good start. The author sourced his descriptions from Wikipedia, so I'd suggest also looking at the Complete List of Heavy Metal Subgenres, also on Wikipedia, to round out your knowledge.

The music that accompanies each point on the map seems to be from the author's library. For more information about the bands and to do some exploring of your own, check out The Encyclopaedia Metallum (as a starting point).

Enjoy!

Just add ".com" to the end of the URL you get, Trem, and it'll work.
